All the big names were at the Daytona Supercross in 1979. Bob Hannah was defending Supercross series champion and Honda’s Marty Tripes was last years Daytona winner trying to be come the first rider to win it two years in a row. Only in its seventh year of existence the Daytona supercross had already become the top prize Supercross race to win. Gary Semics pulls the holeshot and leads many laps with Tripes and Hannah back and forth for second and third but lurking behind them is first Daytona Supercross winner Jimmy Weinert. Weinert, the oldest rider in the race at 27 years old puts in an amazing ride and sends the 40,000 plus crowd to its feet with his last lap pass of Hannah to take the win making this one of the most exciting Supercross races in history.
